Engagement rate checker

Work out an engagement rate two ways — against reach and against followers — and see the gap between them. That gap is what a buyer is really asking about when they want views instead of a follower count.

How it works

Two divisions, and the difference between them is the interesting part.

  • Engagement on reach = (likes + comments + saves) ÷ people who saw the post. This is the honest measure.
  • Engagement on followers = the same interactions ÷ total followers. This is the number most calculators give you, and the one most media kits quote.
  • Reach rate = views ÷ followers. What share of the audience sees anything at all.

Why reach is the honest measure

Dividing by follower count flatters an account whose audience has stopped turning up — which is precisely what a buyer is trying to detect. An account with 40,000 followers where only 2,000 see a post will look respectable on the follower measure and poor on the reach measure. The second number is the one that predicts what a promo will do.

This cuts both ways. If your reach rate is low, that is not necessarily your fault — platforms throttle reach on their own — but you should price and pitch on the reach figure rather than the follower one, because that is what you can actually deliver.

What counts as good

Measured against reach: above 12% is very engaged, 6–12% is healthy, 3–6% is average, and below 3% is quiet. Those bands are our judgement rather than a published benchmark — no credible dataset exists for this platform, and anyone presenting one as fact is guessing with more confidence than the data supports.

Buyers: use this alongside the other checks in the vetting guide. Sellers: a strong number here is worth putting on your media kit.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good engagement rate for a creator?

Measured against reach: above 12% is very engaged, 6–12% healthy, 3–6% average, below 3% quiet. Measured against followers the numbers look higher and mean less, which is why most published benchmarks are optimistic.

How do you calculate engagement rate?

Add likes, comments and saves, then divide by the number of people who actually saw the post and multiply by 100. Dividing by follower count instead gives a higher, less useful number.

Why is my engagement rate low?

Usually because reach is low rather than because the audience is unresponsive — check the reach rate figure. Platforms limit how much of an audience sees any given post, and an audience built quickly through follow-for-follow will show this most.

Can engagement rate be faked?

Interactions can be bought, which is why reach and engagement should be read together and why buyers ask for insights screenshots rather than typed figures. A very high follower count with low reach is the pattern worth asking about.

Numbers are worth more attached to a reputation

Anyone can quote an engagement rate. A seller profile here shows yours alongside ratings from completed orders, which is what a buyer actually trusts.
